Partnering with Parents for Children’s Behavior

I often find myself telling parents about their over energetic child..”You have a leader in your home. Your child is far more intelligent than expected for that age. Positive redirection and engagement of right level needs to be provided consistently…. so the ‘uniqueness of your child’ remains intact throughout.’

It is the smart kids who get into problems. Adults like to name it as ‘Behavior Problems’. Our actions, as parents and adults in their lives;  can recreate the problem more if not approached sensibly. Only together, can we Nurture your child while highlighting the uniqueness of their Nature.

At ABC Center, children are taught to use acceptable alternatives such as problem solving and critical thinking skills to reduce conflict. Since children learn social skills by modeling adults and practicing with friends, a positive guidance approach is practiced at the center. By implementing proactive steps with young children early on and consistently, we spend more of our time encouraging appropriate child behavior, and less time and effort spent on correcting misbehavior. Our goal is to help children learn appropriate behavior and self-regulating skills, while strengthening self-esteem, and building strong teacher-student relationships. It is our policy to protect all children by providing a stable and secure environment.

As Preschool teachers, we are committed to developing partnerships and supporting families. Our program is designed to support children’s growth and to challenge them to learn as individuals with unique learning styles and ways of responding to the world. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, loving environment where children can reach their full potential; emotionally, physically, socially, and intellectually as we prepare them for success and future life. Individuality and cultural diversity are valued and encouraged by paying special attention to the needs and interests of each individual child and their families. Celebrations of birthdays and holidays are unique to each family. We always try to nurture children’s discussions about important events in their lives including holidays and church, mosque, temple, or synagogue experiences. While we acknowledge most holidays, our focus is on celebrating life, milestones of growth and development, individual and group accomplishments, people, natural wonders, special days, and the changing seasons.

Our purpose is to provide a high-quality program where families are valued for their bonds and traditions, as well as, a commitment to form a collaborative partnership between home and center to facilitate each child’s ability to reach their full potential. Parents are encouraged to share their hopes and dreams for their children’s future. Together we will provide a forum for children to flourish as we continually learn from each other.

Daily two-way communication is critical. We encourage our families to take a minute when signing in their child to talk with their child’s teacher. We rely on you to let us know about events that occur at home that may affect your child’s day at the center.

Remember, open communication will help us better serve you and your child’s needs. Monthly newsletters will help our families keep current on classroom and center activities. Various opportunities will also be offered throughout the year to bring families together. Center information will be given to parents through notices attached to your child’s sign-in sheet and posters on the parent bulletin board. Please check and read these regularly. Formal parent-teacher conferences are offered twice a year. However, you may contact the center at any time to arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher or myself.

Families are welcome to visit the center and observe their children at any time. We value each family’s unique contributions, talents, and skills. We urge family involvement. Volunteers are always welcomed to assist with classroom activities, organizing special functions, computer work, sewing and mending gardening, etc. You are always welcomed to make arrangements with me to contribute in any particular area that may be of interest to you. Keeping in mind that some children find it hard for family members to drop-in and leave, we ask that you please discuss the bets time with your child’s teacher.

If at any time you have a concern, or need to discuss something with us, please communicate with your child’s teacher or the appropriate staff member. A meeting may be scheduled in person or over the phone if required.

Through trusting relationships with adults, young children learn about their world and their place in it. They learn the world is safe and responsive to their needs. They learn to form satisfying relationships with others, to communicate, to face challenges, and to experience and regulate their emotions. Our interaction styles with children help them build positive and emotionally secure relationships with us. Children who have secure relationships with their teachers and parents demonstrate lower levels of challenging behaviors and higher levels of competence in school. It is our hope that all our children, families, and staff will come together to bring our vision of unity, nurturance, and guidance into fruition. Let’s make it happen.
